About

My passion for education is deeply rooted in family legacy, purpose and service.

My great grandfather, Mr M. Applesamy, was one of the early pioneers in Indian education and one of the first Indian teachers in South Africa to qualify for the Indian Teachers’ Junior Certificate in the early 1900s. He was recognised for his innovative teaching methods, dedication to learner development and contribution to education during a time when opportunities were limited.

His passion for empowering learners and advancing education laid the foundation for generations of educators and leaders within our family. Inspired by his legacy, I have dedicated my journey to creating supportive, nurturing and innovative learning environments where children feel seen, valued and empowered to thrive.

As part of the leadership behind Midrand Innovative Learning Centre and Mnandi Innovative Learning Centre, I am passionate about helping children who may struggle in traditional schooling environments rediscover their confidence, strengths, sense of belonging and love for learning.

Over the years, I have also witnessed the emotional challenges parents face while trying to support children with unique educational, emotional and developmental needs, often without the guidance, support systems or community they desperately need.

This inspired the creation of the Rise Together Community Support Group, a safe and supportive space where parents, families and caregivers can connect, share experiences, receive guidance and find encouragement through their parenting journeys. The vision behind Rise Together is to remind families that they are not alone, and that together, healing, growth and transformation become possible.

I strongly believe that education is not one-size-fits-all. Through personalised support, holistic development and strong family partnerships, my goal is to create calm and emotionally safe environments where both children and families can thrive emotionally, socially and academically.

Inspired by generations of educational leadership and driven by a deep love for children, families and community, my mission remains:
To ensure every child receives the right support, and every parent feels supported in the journey alongside them.

So, what I like about MILC is the one on one learning sessions where if we need help we can ask the teacher of that subject to help us understand, I’ve been with MILC for 10 years now. I’ve learned lots of different lessons and had many experiences, my favourite subject is Science. It’s one thing I’ve discovered that I’m passionate about during my time here at our school. One of my favourite things we used to have was the swimming pool and the transition from what MILC to what it is now is something I could have never imagined, it is truly incredible to be a part of our school. We will continue learning in fun ways and forge lasting bonds and memories. Thank you

“I would like to thank the Centre for the incredible work they are doing with our children. We continue to see improvement on a daily basis, and as parents, that means so much to us.
I would especially like to thank the educators, the management team and the professional expertise that is invested into supporting our children. The dedication, care and commitment shown by the school are truly appreciated.
What stands out most is that the improvement is visible in our child every day, academically, emotionally and socially. That alone speaks volumes about the quality of support and guidance provided at the Centre.
We truly appreciate everything the school is doing and encourage the team to continue the amazing work. Thank you once again for the positive impact you are making in the lives of our children.”

I am a proud parent at Mnandi Innovative Learning Centre. My son was at another centre where he was falling behind and we felt that nothing was done to assist him to catch up. It was a worrying time for our family and then we found Mnandi Innovative Learning Centre. From there everything changed. The teachers took their time to understand my son’s needs and help him catch up.
Right now he is growing in confidence, he can read properly and he loves going to school. I am proud to say my son has completed his Cambridge in all stages with high marks. I am so excited for the decision that we took to register my son at Mnandi Innovative Learning Centre. I am a proud parent. Thank you.”

“My name is Samantha Gounden and I am Bella and Gabby’s mom. My girls have been part of MILC since the very beginning in 2015. They were actually the second and third learners at the school, so we have truly grown alongside the MILC family over the years.
Our overall experience has been wonderful. The fact that we are still here after all these years speaks volumes. As a family, we genuinely feel loved, supported and part of a caring community at MILC.
One of the biggest reasons we chose MILC was because we wanted our children to be in a smaller learning environment where they could receive more individual attention instead of being lost in overcrowded classrooms. The smaller class sizes and one-on-one support have made such a positive difference in their educational journey.
In terms of care and support, I have no complaints at all. The teachers are dedicated, supportive and always ensure the learners are guided in a positive and respectful way. There are structure, care and consistency within the environment, and as a parent that brings great peace of mind.
Academically, I am very happy with the quality of education my children receive. The curriculum is aligned with the CAPS system and provides learners with the grounding and support they need academically while still allowing for more personalised attention and guidance.
What stands out most for me is the sense of family and community within MILC. It is not just a school environment, it is a place where children feel seen, supported and encouraged to grow confidently both academically and emotionally.”

“My overall experience with MILC has honestly been the support system. I am very, very happy with the support from the teachers and the positive changes I’ve seen in my children.
Before joining MILC, Gilbert and Lincoln attended a government school where classes had around 40 learners. Moving to MILC and seeing classes with only a few learners made a huge difference for me because it meant my children could finally receive the individual attention and support they needed.
Lincoln struggled with reading and was also out of school for almost two years because I couldn’t find the right environment for him. When I eventually found MILC, I started noticing a difference within about six months. The progress and support he received were incredible.
As a parent, my children are everything to me, and when it comes to their education, I will keep searching until I find something I truly feel comfortable with. That’s how I found MILC online, and it has been one of the best decisions for my family.
The confidence in my children now is unbelievable. They are more confident, more expressive and more dedicated to their work. The teachers make them feel comfortable and supported, and because of that, they feel free to ask questions without feeling embarrassed or afraid.
The communication between the school and parents has also been amazing. I honestly can’t complain. It feels like one big family. If I need support or information, I can simply send a WhatsApp and I always receive help and guidance.
One of my most memorable moments was seeing my children perform at the school concert. Lincoln is naturally very shy, so seeing him confidently dance to Michael Jackson was such a proud and emotional moment for me. Gilbert and Liam have also really started coming out of their shells since joining MILC.
The support, care and encouragement from the teachers have truly helped my children grow socially, emotionally and academically. For me, knowing that my children are safe, understood and genuinely supported every day means everything.”

Thanks to the individualized support and nurturing environment, my son has made incredible progress academically, socially, and emotionally. He is more confident, more expressive, and more willing to try new things. The school has given him a place where he feels safe, respected, and celebrated for exactly who he is.
As a parent, there is no greater comfort than knowing your child is surrounded by people who truly believe in him. I am deeply grateful for the team’s dedication, and I could not have asked for a better school for my son.”
